Abstract
        Plants with C4 photosynthesis are more efficient and require less water and fertilizer than plants with C3 photosynthesis. The C3 plants comprise most of all plant species (>80%), such as Arabidopsis, rice, and wheat, while C4 plants comprise about 3% of all plants. Although C4 plants are less common, most of them are farm grasses or high-yield food crops, such as maize, sorghum, and millet. A key structural difference between C3 and C4 leaves is that C4 leaves have Kranz anatomy however, little is known about the regulatory network of Kranz anatomy. Understanding the regulatory difference between two types of leaves is useful for engineering C4 photosynthesis into C3 crops to perform C4 photosynthesis for enhanced yields.
        For this purpose, we use maize leaves as the C4 model and have been conducted several types of samples in the developing maize leaves. Together with our data and previous studies from other groups, I will explain our observations between the two types of leaves and introduce our hypothesis and approach to unravel the regulation of Kranz anatomy.
